Japanese food: plan a meal without stereotypes

A national cuisine is not one uniform diet. Restaurant, preparation and portion choices change the meal.

What to expect

“Sushi means slimming” and “traditional cuisine means a perfect meal” avoid examining the actual dish. Consider vegetables, rice or noodles, proteins, sauces and drinks. Taste, company and variety matter. You do not need to assign fat-burning effects to a food culture to enjoy it.

Prepare a restaurant order

Identify rice or noodle dishes, vegetables, proteins and sauces on the menu. Choose a combination you enjoy that fits your constraints. A Japanese menu does not provide a universal portion or automatic weight effect. Describe an order by its actual preparations.

EXAMPLE / HOW TO USE IT

An example to adapt

Identify components of the offered dishes and choose a combination you like. Afterwards note what was enjoyable and practical rather than dividing the entire menu into allowed and forbidden foods.
