Food and satiety: observe what suits you

Searching for a food that removes all hunger can obscure meal organisation. A descriptive journal identifies situations to discuss without counting or judging each bite.

Describe the situation

For a few days, record meal time, components and when hunger returns. Add a practical constraint: eating quickly, a short break, difficult sleep or an incomplete lunch because time was limited. This record is neither a diagnosis nor a food-efficacy test. If recording food causes anxiety, stop and seek appropriate support.

Change one practical element

Do you regularly skip part of lunch because it is hard to carry? Prepare a portable option the evening before. Is breakfast monotonous? Try another combination, such as bread, yoghurt and fruit, or a savoury choice you enjoy. Dietary variety and including pulses or wholegrains are public guidance. They cannot promise a fixed number of hunger-free hours.

Know when to ask for help

Hunger that feels uncontrollable, faintness, restriction followed by loss of control, or an unusual appetite change deserve discussion with a professional. Do not try to hide symptoms with an “appetite-suppressant” supplement. Bring observations and medicine details; their interpretation depends on your circumstances.

EXAMPLE / HOW TO USE IT

A non-judgemental journal

Tuesday, lunch at 12:30: sandwich and drink; ten-minute break; hunger at 15:00. Question: how can lunch be easier to organise and less rushed? Do not conclude “bad food” or infer illness from this line alone.
